Studied medicine – the University of Toronto, Canada. 1916 – the World War I, France. 1919 – returned to Canada – worked as a medical practitioner. 1920 – a lecturer – the University of Toronto. Became interested in the treatment of diabetes – did scientific experiments on dogs – extracted insulin from the pancreas. 1922 – the first patient received insulin. 1923 – the Nobel prize in Physiology and Medicine. February 21, 1941 – killed in an air disaster, Newfoundland. The discovery of insulin – to save many lives. Robert Koch (1843–1910) German doctor, bacteriologist, one of the founders of modern microbiology. December 11, 1843 – born Clausthal, Germany. 1862 – the University of Göttingen, studied medicine. The first to isolate the anthrax (сибирская язва) bacillus – developed a vaccination for it. 1882 – discovered the bacteria that cause tuberculosis. 1883 – investigated an outbreak (вспышка) of cholera in Egypt, discovered cholera organisms.
