In the presence of pathological impurities (mucus, blood and so on), leave the contents of the bedpan till the doctor’s examination. 10. Change gloves, give to the patient clean bedpan and wash a patient intimately. 11. After performing the manipulation, remove the bedpan and oil-skin. 12. Disinfect the bedpan. 13. Remove the screen. 15. Take off your gloves, wash your hands. The care of the oral cavity In weakened patients plaque appears on the teeth, on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, that consists of mucus, exfoliated epithelial cells, rotting food residues, bacteria. This contributes to the appearance of inflammatory and putrefactive processes in the oral cavity, that leads to the development of periodontal disease and caries, decreased appetite, worsing of overall health and the appearance of bad breath. To prevent these conditions, it is necessary to rinse the mouth after each meal, at least twice a day to brush your teeth and clean the gaps between your teeth 1 time a day (preferably in the evening) by the thread. If the patient on bed rest can brush his teeth, give him help in this. Provide him with all he needs and give a comfortable position in bed. If the patient is conscious, but helpless, the nurse takes care of the oral cavity: it consists in rinsing the mouth after each meal and vomiting, cleaning the teeth (dentures) in the evening and in the morning, cleaning the gaps between the teeth 1 time a day. Completing the care for the oral cavity, it’s necessary to clean the tongue with brush and to remove the plaque that contains bacteria. Eye care If there is no eye discharge, then special care is not required. Wash the eyelids of one eye (from the outer corner to the inner one) with terry glove (without soap), wash the second eyelid by the other part of glove. Wipe dry. In case of eye discharge, gluing eyelashes and eyelids, during the morning toilet it is necessary to take care of the patient’s eyes. To do this, you need to prepare: a bottle with 1–2% sodium bicarbonate solution, furacillin solution 1:5000, box with sterile gauze swabs and gauze wipes, tweezers, sterile tray, tray marked “dirty swabs”, sterile gloves.
