3 INTRODUCTION The purpose of the student’s guide is to help students to do their individual work in mastering the principles of working with the MS Word text editor and writing a paper. The guide contains brief general requirements for the design of a paper, the structure and sequence of sections, the content of the work, the scientific reference system and appendices, etc. Upon completion of this guide : • the students must know the requirements for the design of works in the text editor; • the students must be able to use the principles of automation in working with the text editor, set document parameters, select styles in headings, edit and format a text, enter formulas in MS Equation editor, build tables, insert graphs, diagrams and images, create contents of documents with hyperlinks, check spelling and grammar of the text, work with the help system and the interface setting. The preparation of a research paper is a form of unsupervised work of carrying out an individual task. It allows the students to acquire knowledge, develop and practice their skills in the automation of text processing. Writing the paper is a necessary condition for mastering the course syllabus. The assessment of the paper by a faculty member The paper is presented to the faculty member in class or sent to him/her by e‑mail. The paper is checked and assessed by the faculty member (‘pass’ or ‘fail’). The work that does not meet the requirements is returned for revision. The students who have not completed their individual task (research paper) are not allowed to take the credit test.
