56 9. Pour the contents of the funnel into the jar for sending to the laboratory. 10. Again, pour water into the funnel and repeat the 7th, 8th, 9th points‑10–12 times until all 10 liters of water are used. If there is no effect after washing with 10 liters, the procedure should be continued to clean wash water. 11. After the procedure, give the funnel to the assistant, in the left hand, take a towel, grasp the probe at the patient’s mouth, and with the right hand, remove it. 12. Leave the rinsing water for examination by a doctor. 13. Place the probe and the funnel in a 3% chloramine solution for 1 hour. Enema is the introduction of various liquids into the lower part of the colon for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes (Fig.23). Therapeutic enemas are used for: – bowel cleansing – cleansing, siphon, aperient enema; – introduction of drugs into the colon for local action on the intestinal wall and for the general impact to the body – drug small enema, drip enema. – for diagnostic purposes, enemas are used in preparation for x‑ray examination of the digestive system, urinary tract and pelvic organs; for endoscopic examination of the large intestine. Enema classification Absolute contraindications for use all enemas : bleeding from the digestive tract; acute inflammatory processes in the colon or the anus; malignant neoplasm of the rectum; the first days after surgery on the organs of digestion; abdominal pain of unknown nature; cracks in the anus or rectal prolapse. Cleansing enema is put with diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Only the lower part of the colon is cleaned with help of it.
