IZHEVSK STATE MEDICAL ACADEMY Izhevsk State Medical Academy is a higher educational institution which provides / pro- vokes medical training for all citizens of Russia and foreigners as well. It was found / founded in 1933 as a medical institute due to the urgent / unique needs in medical personnel in the developing Volga and Ural region of Russia. In 1983 it was awarded / aware the Order of Peoples’ Friendship for the achievements in training highly skilled specialists. In 1995 the institute was renamed Izhevsk State Medical Academy (ISMA). The oldest faculty is the Faculty of General Medicine. It was founded in 1933. Students mastered / managed three main specialties: Surgery, Therapy, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In 1975 the Faculty of Paediatrics was established / engaged . It had two main specializations: Paediatrics and Paediatric Surgery. In 1980 the Faculty of Dentistry was opened. The newest faculties are the Faculty of Additional Educa- tion and the Faculty for Foreign Students, they were established in 2022. There is one more faculty, the Faculty of Continuing Medical Education, that provides / pre- scribes postgraduate training courses for doctors. Each faculty is headed / handed by a dean. Nowadays medical training has a differentiated system including / improv- ing preparatory courses for applicants, basic undergraduate education and postgra- duate (professional) training. The academy, like all Russian higher educational insti- tutions, is headed / handed by a rector. About 3,000 full-time medical students from all parts of Russia and abroad study at Izhevsk State Medical Academy. During the first three years students study preclinical subjects and in their senior years they master / manage clinical subjects and understand / undergo practical training at teaching hospitals of Izhevsk. The staff are about 400 members including / improving faculty members, libra- rians, laboratory technicians who work at 52 departments. Among them there are about 80 Doctors of medical sciences and more than 200 Candidates of medical sciences who give lectures and hang / hold seminars at 30 teaching hospitals of Iz- hevsk. Seventy seven per cent of faculty members have scientific degrees. The academy is a medical scientific center.
